Hey Smidgers,
I know that updates to the tiny have been slow getting to you, but progress is being made. We have walls! And we have Paint! It’s a tiny house paint job.
We have gone from this…
To this…
And finally to this…
Exciting isn’t it? Let’s go room by room and see the paint. Room by room. I crack myself up sometimes.
Here’s the kitchen. We went round and round about whether or not to paint the walls at all because the walls looked so good bare. We finally decided that there would be too much wood seeing as we are going to have walnut butcherblock countertops and hardwood floors. And none were going to be the same shade. Once we decided that we were going to paint, then we had to decide on colors, and whether we were going to paint every wall. I think this was the hardest decisions we had to make so far.
We finally decided on the blue you see here. It was a bold choice, but I think it opens up the space. The wall in the bedroom will be stained a dark walnut to tie in the countertops.
The trim will be painted white to match the ceiling and kitchen cabinets.
This wall leading to the bathroom will have a white wash stain and a barn door. We still need to install the door and hardware, but that will come in due time. I think we are going to stain the barn door to match the countertops as well, but that may change once we are further along. Heck, the door isn’t even built yet.
I tell you what. If I had given much thought to the loft before we closed in walls, I would have lowered the ceiling height in the bathroom just a little bit. It is pretty tight up there. We had thought about possibly putting a bed up there for extra sleeping, but I think that might not happen. It might be just a little too tight. It could work, but not if the person sleeping up there is claustrophobic. Right now, its just going to be storage, and possibly a place for our cats to go hide.
Painting it was a chore. I know what Michaelangelo must have felt like painting the Sistine Chapel!
Next up is the bathroom. Man, it’s hard to get a good picture in there. The bathroom is actually 5′ by 8′, but with the door in the middle, you can get a shot of one wall or the other. The wall you see is where the sink and cabinet are going. The white will hopefully not be too bright. The wall over the shower is going to be a natural cypress wood, treated with several coats of waterproofing, but it will still look natural. I wanted it to go over a copper shower pan, but the budget said no.
The ceiling will either be white or we may give it a blue wash. We haven’t decided yet and probably won’t until we play around with it.
Well, that’s about all that has happened in the last week or so. It is still hard to believe we are actually doing this. We have gotten quite a few comments about it. From you guys are crazy, to that’s the coolest thing ever. Only time will tell whether we are making the right decision or not. Either way, we will have quite the story to tell. And have one of the coolest campers around.
We still have a lot of work left. The contractor has been ordering our cabinets and getting ready to install the floor. Hopefully by the end of next week, it will almost be ready!
Until next time…
