I know, I knooowww this is a FOOD BLOG.. so why a review on toothbrushes?? Yes! A review on toothbrushes! Well, because not all toothbrushes are the same, not all dental needs are the same, AND while you eat really good organic super foods to care for your body and keep your teeth strong and healthy, it’s just as important to practice good oral care to keep them clean and maintained! I was using the Philips Sonicare Flexcare Rechargeable Sonic electric toothbrush, until it diiieed! I got the model that had the UVA/UVB antibacterial light and the extra gadgets on the handle. It was a $200 dollar set I decided to invest my money into because it’s gotten good reviews and I wanted that deep- clean- right- from- the- dentists- office -feel everyday!
My experience with the Philips Sonicare is that I did feel like it gave a good clean, but the brush head is more rectangular in nature, and it only vibrates/oscilates in one motion and direction: back and forth, left to right. It was very fast, very ticklish and in the beginning unbearable in my mouth until I got used to it. I have a more petite mouth, since I am a petite woman, only makes sense, right?! .. and the square head only vibrating back and forth didn’t get the hard to reach areas. This was bothersome to me over time because the brush head didn’t concentrate very well on individual teeth, and missed a lot of areas between teeth too. No good.
When the brush died, instead of replacing it quickly with another Sonicare, I decided to try a different kind of electric toothbrush: Round head, circular rotating head that also vibrates back and forth. SO, I bought the Oral-B Vitality Floss Action Spin Pro electric toothbrush from Bed Bath and Beyond for the $40-60.00 range! Of course it comes with the charger and extra heads… the one thing it does not come with is the plastic head protector to put on it when traveling. BUT, that’s not such a big deal because you can just detach the head and toss it into a baggie to put in your travel case.
I really like the round brush heads with the flossers built in! Does a good job of getting between the teeth and along the gum line. You can see from this picture the four yellow lines on the head are the flossers that rotate in circular motion, but also swing back and forth at the same time. I ordered extra brush heads to stock up on them.
My experience with the Oral-B Braun Spin Pro with the round head was a much better, thorough clean! For these reasons:
* Circular head fits better in a petite mouth.
* Circular head concentrates directly on each specific tooth.
* The round brush also has little flossers on them that get in between teeth.
* Felt it cleaned much better along the gum line!
* Round head fits the hard to reach areas in the back and corners of mouth.
* Brush head has a nice massaging affect on the gums. Enjoyable, good for blood flow.
* Colors on brush head fade to let you know it’s time to change the head to a new one.
* Teeth were whiter with the first use!!
* Got a better clean at a fraction of the cost!
* I was left with a prettier smile!
SO, which toothbrush would I recommend? Well, they both are good toothbrushes, but for me the Oral-B is the winner! I think it gave an overall better, deeper, more thorough clean and it’s great for the petite mouths out there!

Leanne ♥
