Our Little Trailer of Happiness

Hey Smidgers,

So I have shown you what our tiny bathroom looks like. Now I want to continue our little tour. The Lovely Amy and I are really proud of our little trailer of happiness. So without further adieu, I present our take on a tiny house.

We start with the main room in the house.

It’s the kitchen and living room combined. As you can see we went with a beach theme. We had several long discussions about decorating, and this was the happy medium that we came up with. Besides, eventually, it will probably reside in a beach town in North Carolina. After it spends some time in our daughter’s yard.  As you can see, we aren’t completely finished. We still have some painting to do. Another project I have is to build a hinged extension on the countertop for a dining area. I am still not completely sold on the air conditioner that you can see in the picture and still might put in a mini split unit.

Next up is our multi-purpose stairway

They lead up to the bedroom and hide our kitty litter box. It’s not exactly what we wanted when we were discussing the stairs with our contractor, but I think they turned out pretty cool. You can’t really see it, but there is a latch on the front face that will allow us to remove the bottom two stair treads to allow us easier access to the litter box for changing and cleaning. We are going to be installing a small vent fan under the stairs to vent the smell outside, so hopefully, the litter won’t be the first thing you smell when you come into the house. I have a sailboat rudder that I am going to be staining and mounting to the wall as a handrail to continue the beachy theme. The Lovely Amy has already staked her claim to the landing as her favorite spot to sit in the house, so I will probably have to make a cushion that will fit there so she won’t have to sit on the hard stairs. I personally think the dogs will make that their spot, but we will have to wait and see who wins.

Finally, we have the bedroom

I know that this is a terrible picture that really doesn’t do the room any justice, but its the best one I have. I promise that I will take better pictures next time I’m home. That is a full sized mattress in the picture, but we may be putting a queen in instead. There is about 6 inches of clearance around the bed if we do go with a queen. I think a full will be too small, but we are going to try the full first.

So, that’s our little slice of tiny heaven. We are really excited about it and plan on having it moved in the next few months. It will allow us to be able to spend time with our daughter and spoil our grandkids, without having to impose. We will also have our own space, just a few feet away.
