Your dog will love this organic beef stew recipe! It feels great to go on a shopping spree for fresh raw organic ingredients knowing you are cooking a big pot of love for your pooch! After all, when reading the labels of wet or dry dog food, they “say” they include these same ingredients in theirs too! Like: carrots, potato, sweet potato, blueberries, banana, pumpkin, peanut butter, bacon, beef/chicken/turkey etc., peas, corn, green beans, apples …. but many commercial dog food companies also include fillers, chemicals, byproducts, and not to mention, GMO food. I’ve always been concerned about what my dog eats, and I want him to have the best so he’s as healthy as can be for the longer haul. Good quality of life is what we aim for at my house, and that starts with organic earthly nutrition all around, including the pup!
The crock pot used here is a “Thrift Store Find Of The Week” … (We are treasure hunters!) When getting started in the cooking, baking, or home made pet food arenas, shopping on a budget for food AND kitchen tools is essential! And of course gets extended when cooking for your pets. We have 2, and this one is our dog’s pot … yes, his very own crock pot! I found it at a thrift store for $5.00! It’s a large one too! Which is perfect for making stews for him in bulk. Happy happy joy joy!
A much needed photo of all the ingredients:
A few of the cooking process: …All ingredients added and ready to cover… then covered, cooking 5-8 hours depending on temp, with check-up and stirring each hour.
Serve plain (with a vitamin pill added optional), or for a special treat, sprinkle a little organic Parmesan or Romano cheese on top! I don’t recommend this as a usual staple, but ooooonce in a while is allowed in our house;)
Woof Bon Appetit!
Organic Beef Stew Recipe For Your Dog!
Notes
Makes enough servings to last for meals all week long. Only used 3 potatoes here, because throughout the week each meal I either add rolled oats, rice, barley, or pasta as an added grain/starch to provide bulk, base, foundation, and stewy consistency. This pot will come out a bit more soupy than stewy, but that's OK as other ingredients are added with each meal to liven it up a bit!
I add a vitamin pill daily to meals in the morning, and for a treat I might sprinkle some cheese on top at dinner, like Romano, Parmesan, or Cheddar!
Bon Appetit!
Ingredients
- A home made beef stew recipe just for your pooch! Not only is it nutritious and your dogs will love it, but it provides them meals for the whole week!
- * 2 lbs. lean stew meat (I used Australian premium free range beef)
- * 3 large carrots
- * 3 medium/large red/gold potatoes
- * 3 stalks celery
- * 1 large head broccoli
- * 32 oz. can diced tomatoes in juice
- * 2 12 oz. organic beef stock broth
- * Cold pressed olive oil
Instructions
- In a pan, heat olive oil and add beef. Sear/brown outside of beef to seal in natural juices. Cook almost all the way through.
- Cut beef chunks into smaller pieces for easier eating. Add beef and olive oil to crock pot, lining bottom as "first layer" of ingredients to go in.
- Soak veggies in water, clean, rinse. Peel carrots, chop into bite size pieces. Only peel off bad parts of potatoes, keep rest of skins. Chop into bite size medium pieces. Clean and chop celery. Add all ingredients to crock pot.
- Pour in both containers of beef stock.
- Add can of tomatoes plus juice to pot.
- Broccoli - rinse well under water, discard thick parts of stalks. Cut/chop broccoli head/florets and thinner parts of stem into smaller bit size pieces. Add to crock pot raw. The broccoli wil cook with the rest of the pot.
- Turn pot on high for 5 hours, or low for 8 hours. Stir every hour or so. Enjoy the aromas that fill your house! Watch your dog's nose go-a-twitchin'! :))
- All ingredients are organic. And FYI, stay away from adding onions & garlic to a stew recipe for your dog, as both ingredients are considered toxic for their little bodies. I used less ingredients here than I bought, which is OK: either freeze what's left, or use them to add to the stew as the pot dwindles, OR keep them to make a whole new pot next week!
- I like to use the organic beef stock broth for rich flavor, but water and beef bullion cubes can be used as an alternative too.
