There is nothing more important to your happiness factor than taking proper care of your body. You cannot have a healthy mind, a healthy heart, a healthy paradigm, a healthy self image, or healthy self love.. without a healthy body! And the same is true the other way around. It’s the concept of Holistic Health and holistic healing, by nurturing your whole self, and not just parts of you. Taking care of yourself as a multidimensional being knowing that every part of you connects to the next and that nothing about you is isolated from another part. When we start to see ourselves this way, it’s easier to recognize when we become out of balance and over burdened more in one area than another.
There is nothing better than a good night’s sleep to make you feel better. Well, maybe a perfect diet, proportioned in fat, carbohydrates, proteins and calories with good quality nourishing organic food and pleeennty of water. Adding the benefit of a good exercise program will do wonders for your health and well-being. And of course, a robust deliciously satisfying sex life! But I will say that a great nights sleep (or 2, or 3!) can change your outlook 180 degrees when you don’t feel well mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.
Taking care of your health is not only an integral part of taking care of your over all well-being, but it should become a priority! It’s hard to feel happy if you don’t get proper nutrition, sleep or exercise, no matter how hard you try to keep a positive attitude. If you don’t feel rested or fueled, happiness is going to be just beyond your reach. And when you feel like your happiness is beyond your own reach, that is when it starts to affect mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of your inner self. Mental dialogue becomes more negative in nature, which turns into negative self talk, which turns into negative put downs we tell ourselves… and that turns into this downward spiral of “lower vibration everything”.
Take time to get the rest you need. Go to bed earlier than usual, but don’t disturb your natural rhythm too much. Fit in some naughty time between the sheets a few times per week, or more! Eat smaller meals, but more frequently, to keep your blood sugar levels stabilized. Eat fresh foods! Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables will help keep your energy levels up by oxygenating the blood and delivering vital nutrients to your cells so you feel your best. Take alone time to reflect, journal, meditate, drink tea, get a massage, go to the spa, breathe in nature, and do other things you love!
Exercise by going for a hike, running with your dog, yoga, or a group class. In the picture above, Mason and I were walking for Ovarian Cancer in downtown Cleveland. We spent the day romping around the city and when we got home, we were pooped! But it was for a great cause, it was good exercise, and gave us bonding time together! Exercise tells your brain to release happy hormones, called endorphins. Get your heart rate up, breathe hard, get your sweat on, and keeping it consistent helps you burn fat and gives you a burst of energy followed by that euphoric feeling. The name of the game for great overall health and well being is balance! If you find it hard to get balance, a good strategy is to schedule it in. Yea, yea I know it sounds strange … to actually schedule in a hike on Wednesday at 4:00 pm with your dog, or Thursday at 3:00 pm meditation and journaling for 1 hour, or date night with your honey, or Saturday morning gardening … but it works! Our lives are so busy and so over run with wearing many hats that time flies too fast, the days blur and it doesn’t take long to get out of balance. Make YOURSELF a priority, learn to say NO to others, achieve balanced health, and watch how fast you start to feel better in your own skin!
Take control of your own body as a way of making yourself happier. By making better food choices, getting plenty of quality rest, drinking plenty of fresh water, taking alone time, getting more exercise, and having some great sex are all sure-fire ways of increasing your happy factor.
Be well,
Leanne ♥
